Systemic brokeness

This morning, I have been wallowing in ill feelings about a friend's incredibly poor choices; choices that recently became public. When our rock-stars, movie stars and favorite athletes mess up in their lives and marriages it makes a bit of sense. People in those circles seem to radiate a significant degree of extravagant self-indulgence. Money... sex... drugs and rock and roll.

Here is what I'm feeling, us commerce oriented pop-Christians invest ourselves in producing and supporting rock-star pastors and worship leaders - buying product and going to increasingly spectacular road-show conferences. Then when our heroes act like the celebrities they have become, we rush to black-list them, or worse, offer to sweep the mess up so that our heroes can get back to entertaining. It is like we are kids enthralled with the tight-rope act at the circus.
